WKMG-TV News 6 the Graham Media Group owned CBS affiliate in Orlando, Florida is honored to announce that their Sports Director Jamie Seh has been honored with a prestigious Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media.
The Gracie Awards recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment. These awards focus on women who are making positive change and who further the discussion of what a fulfilling career in media looks like. As such, they also acknowledge individuals who have made inspirational contributions to the industry.
"Receiving this award is quite an honor," said Jamie Seh. "I very much appreciate the acknowledgement for the work I have been able to do at News 6 and as a female Sports Director these kinds of stories and programs are naturally near and dear to my heart."
For more than 25 years, Jamie has worked to bring women to the forefront in a profession traditionally dominated by men and men's sports.
Majoring in journalism at Syracuse University, Jamie soon found out she was entering a field where few women had ventured. She was the only woman in a department full of men. That fact continued as she started her career. Jamie recalls fighting to get into locker rooms for interviews and having to work hard just to prove she knew sports, but Jamie did not give up. While at WTEN in Albany, Jamie made sure that women's sports were not ignored. One of her proudest memories was being honored by a high school women's basketball team for the outstanding coverage she had given to them. A testament to young girls that what they did was just as important as the boys. That mission she continues at WKMG with her "Player of the Week" spotlight.
Jamie's talent and skills are now noticed throughout the sports community. This year she was hired for a second time to do television play-by-play for football's All-Star Hula Bowl and was the radio play-by-play host for the popular 2022 Cure Bowl. Jamie has been with the Cure Bowl since its launch in 2015 and made history by being selected as part of the first all-female crew to call an NCAA FBS game in 2019 in Orlando, Florida. What makes the Cure Bowl even more significant is that it is the first postseason college football game to incorporate their cause of raising awareness for breast cancer research in its name. So far, the bowl has raised 3.8 million dollars for cancer research, and Jamie has been an integral part of that monumental effort.
In another trailblazing move, Jamie was also selected as the play-by-play announcer for the Orlando Apollos, a professional team in the Alliance of American Football. It is important to mention that Play-by-play is a position that at the start of Jamie's career was essentially unattainable for women. And it is still a position that few women have been able to achieve.
Jamie has reported on stories that dig deeper than just sports in fact recently she profiled a former female NFL scout who broke a glass ceiling. In the past month, Jamie was nominated for the 2022 Florida Sportscaster of the Year Award by the National Sports Media Association, awards dominated by men. Proof that Jamie continues to be recognized as one of the best in her field regardless of gender. Why? Because she understands sports is about more than just the game.
"Jamie Seh is one of the finest journalists in the country," said Jeff Hoffman, General Manager of WKMG. "Her sports knowledge and experience in covering a range of athletes from professional to little league is phenomenal. Her enthusiasm is only matched by her kindness and humility. Jamie is huge part of our success at WKMG and ClickOrlando.com. It's wonderful to see her hard work rewarded with such an esteemed honor."
